Cruising through the week

March 18th

Apologies for absence, time has flown and I have been caught up in it all.  Hoping you are well my dear reader and that you have too been occupied and happy.  Can you smell Spring around the corner, I can and it fills my heart with joy.

My very quick five to share with you to day may explain a little of my prolonged silence.  Here goes...

This year my father turns 80 and I accompanied him as his travelling companion on a cruise.  Yes, you did read that correctly, this small boat sailing girl did step foot and lived on a cruise ship for a week.  Will wonders never cease.  John, my husband, exclaimed to the children that I was 'taking one for the team', we small boaters have always scoffed at cruising on such large ships and here I was going willingly...

18 stories high!

As you can see from the photograph she was no small boat.  In fact to be honest with you I had to pretend that I was in a hotel rather than on a boat, she was just too big for comfort for me.  Despite the type of sea faring I was doing, it was fun and good to spend quality uninterrupted time with pappa.

Have cruise will crochet...

Of course I needed my space from him too and along came my crochet.  I brought along with me, one of the Little Box of Crochet subscriptions, which packed up neatly and took very little space in the luggage, it was actually perfect for travelling with.  I will be writing a post just about this subscription next week, look out for it.

International Ted came along for the ride

Some of you may remember that I was given charge to look after International Ted by my colleagues at work, so of course he came along in the hand luggage with me so he could experience it all.  Many people commented on a grown woman with a Teddy bear, more on this in my next post, but I merrily photographed and Ted accompanied me everywhere.

We may have sampled nearly
ALL of the cocktails!

I was told before embarking on the cruise to enjoy the cocktails and what great advice that was, each night pappa and I sampled two or three different ones.  In a week we managed to almost sample the lot, hic.

Sleeves have now been added to the jumper

And on returning home this week I knew I had to crack on with making the surprise jumper for John as his birthday draws ever nearer.  I am now ready to begin the fair isle pattern on the yoke, wish me luck.

Joining in as often as I can with  Amy over at Love Made My Home, to bring you five things from my week.  Pop along and see what others are sharing today.

♥  Hope Spring is springing with you or that the summer nights are still keeping you warm  ♥

  1. What a beautiful and fun post!
It's lovely that you were able to spend some quality time with your father. I'm sure Ted enjoyed it too. The ship looks beautiful (often the very large ones don't).
Thank you for sharing and have a nice weekend! xx

  4. I think boats that big must seem very strange to travel on. Good to have quality time with your dad:). Your jumper is looking good. Look forward to seeing it finished. Have a great weekend. B x

  5. It was a big cruiser indeed. Here it is very popular to take a big boat to Sweden or Estonia - but that is not for me :) Enjoy your weekend!

  6. I think I would find a boat that size quite disorientating. It sounds as if you and your father had a lovely time and I bet travelling ted enjoyed it too:)

  7. Ooh lucky you! Looks like the sea was calm, none of that Titanic stuff thank goodness. I don't suppose you stopped off anywhere, too busy sampling the cocktails. Great fun. Good luck with the yoke. x

  8. "One for the team"! Ha ... love it ;) What a wonderful thing you did for your dad, he must have loved the adventure as well as you. But where did you actually GO on the cruise?! I told my family for years I would never go on a cruise, but I caved a few years ago (just to please my husband & kids you understand). We cruised the Mediterranean and felt like royalty for 12 days. Good luck with your fair isle knitting!

  10. That's not a boat it's a building! I'm not sure I'd have felt too safe on there - even though I don't mind slightly smaller craft.

Ignore anyone who makes rude comments about travelling with a bear. As the keeper of a small red dragon (https://twitter.com/eldritchdragon) I am well aware of the looks you get. But people just don't understand.

  11. Glad you enjoyed the cruise and that was really lovely that you went with your father and International Ted. Trying the different cocktails during the cocktail hour with your Papa sounds like fun! What a good idea to take along something to crochet - very relaxing. The jumper is coming along well and I admire your Fair Isles knitting skills. Have a great week!

  17. Sure hope we'll be treated to more cruise photos in the future. I especially like to see the food from cruises - usually elegant fare. And the afternoon teas - wonderful.

  20. A boat scratch that out a ship that size would daunt me, but WOW. It looks as though you enjoyed your time with Papa. I am glad you have some distractions as well, your crochet.

  24. I took my children on a Disney cruise a few years ago, having sailed on nothing larger than a catamaran before that. At first, I thought it was awful but then I realized there was a dessert buffet by the pool. Well life's too short to not embrace that. I'm not sure I'd go on another cruise but I was impressed by how nice it was. They were wonderful with my little kids and it was an easy way to travel. Perhaps when I'm older, I'd try one again...
