I have mentioned briefly the CAL (crochet a-long) that I am in the middle of, so far we have completed 9 of the 14 weeks and I am loving. Last Dance on the Beach
From this CAL I am also running a crochet group where we are so far on week 5. Thought I would share with you each of the five squares and the different cakes we have had along side. What could be better, crochet, cake and a CAL.
Week 1
Popcorn stitch |
The first crochet night fell on Norwegian National Day, so we had to have the correct cake: kranskake |
Week 2
Star stitch, it was hard to achieve the correct gauge with this |
Such texture and detail |
Week 2 was a Paul Hollywood triple chocolate cake |
Week 3
Shells and waves if the sea, lots of front post work on these squares this week |
This was a Danish cake called Sandkage, very similar to the Pound Cake |
Week 4
Waves for week 4, loved these squares |
Also the week of our Queen's 90th birthday so it seemed fitting to have Gin & Tonic cake |
Should you be interested in this moist lemon drizzle
cake with a British twist of gin,
see post here:
Week 5
Difficult to see but there are seagull footprints on these squares, look closely, you may just see them |
And this week we ate a Mary Berry Strawberry and Cream cake |
Sharing my 5 weeks of crochet and cake with you for Amy 5 on Friday.
♥ Have you any cake suggestions for me? ♥
I've been meaning to make your G&T cake all week but real life got in the way, if all goes well I'll get to it this weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of crafting and cake, I'd try it whilst scrapbooking but fear I'd get crumbs all over my layouts!
bon weekend
Maggie
Hope real life can take a back seat for a white Maggie. Let me know if you make the cake and what you think xxx
DeleteWhat a lovely idea, crochet and cakes. Such a good combination. I love Nigellas coffee and walnut cake in her Kitchen book. Delicious. Have a good weekend. B x
ReplyDeleteOoh thanks for that Barbara. I may try that cake next week x
DeleteNice and delicious things, the krancake looks at the photo like an especially crochet work ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend
Thank you Masha x
DeleteGorgeous work Selma. Your crochet group must be a treat. My favourite would be week 4 crochet with week 2 cake. :-) x
ReplyDeleteGood choices Jules. Hope all well with you x
DeleteYou are running a first class crochet group, I expect your student numbers will double next time when word gets out about the delicious cakes too. x
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen. Very generous of you x
DeleteIt looks like you have had a fun time. One of my favourite cakes is traditional fruit cake, served up the Yorkshire way with a slice of Wensleydale cheese. Sounds odd - but it works!
ReplyDeleteOoh Fruit cake and cheese sounds great actually x
DeleteWhat could be better than crochet and cakes? Perhaps only knitting and cakes... :)
ReplyDeleteThe kransekake looks very beautiful and special, and after some googling I think it also tastes wonderful.
Thank you for sharing! Have a lovely weekend!
I do have several posts all about kranskake and how to make it and its origins Sara
DeleteOh my, what a wonderful combination, cake and crochet. Like the sound of the G and T cake ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is a great combo. Cake and crochet sit hand in hand
DeleteThe cake looks/sounds scrumptious.
ReplyDeleteAnd your crocheting is incredible.
You are too kind Annie x
DeleteSuch a wonderful combination two of my favourite things crochet and cake.
ReplyDeleteThey are two of my favourite things also mamametcantile
DeleteCoffe flavoured Victoria sponge with coffee buttercream filling.
ReplyDeleteLove the seagull footprint and the popcorn stitch, never seen them before. Maybe I should dust my crochet hooks. Have a nice weekend. x
Ooh that sounds good Christina. Thanks for that cake idea. And yes. Dust off the crochet hooks this is such a fun CAL
DeleteBeautiful crochet and the cakes are just...yum! I think I'd come along just for the cakes. I can't crochet but I can eat cake!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
Sharon this time I had a total newbie to crochet on the course too and she is doing fabulously. Poor lady though I am making her crochet quite advanced stitches
DeleteOh, my! Crochet and cake. What a great idea. I'm wondering how much crocheting I'd get done with cake around...Ha! Looks like a wonderful CAL. Have a fun filled week!
ReplyDeleteThat's a jolly good question Snap! It varies a great deal how much we achieve each week ;)
DeleteHow lovely to share the CAL with friends and cake! I wish I lived near enough to come and join you. Your star stitch squares look much neater than mine, I think I'll have to frog and redo them. What about Rocky road to go with the bobble heart square?
ReplyDeleteGenius! Annie wish I had thought of Ricky road that would have been so apt. Funny you say about frogging I've decided to redo all my waves as I'm not happy with them. Second time round they are looking much smarter. I'll be happier in the long run. Have a good weekend x
DeleteNo cake suggestions but you have given me some crochet suggestions. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCrochet and cake - your class must be very popular. Some of the cake decorating is as creative and pretty as the stitches for each square. I like the look of the Danish cake. Do you make all the cakes or do members of your class contribute?
ReplyDeleteIf anyone knows where to find a Gin and Tonic Cake Recipe written in language a Yank can understand, please let me know at bennittpk@gmail.com. I've Googled and Pinterested and everything is written in Brits language.
ReplyDeleteI will sort it out for you and email you x
DeleteI agree with you on the star square gauge. It was a nightmare and I had to unpick so many times (it would have been great to have the gin and tonic cake while doing that one!!). I'm on the week 3 squares now so a bit behind, but it's a great CAL. Take care xx
ReplyDeleteA wonderful combination of delicious cake and fun crochet! Glad you and your group are enjoying it so much! Thank you for joining Five On Friday, hope you have a great weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteHow busy you've been, beautiful crochet and very tasty looking cakes xx
ReplyDeleteCake and crochet sounds like a great mix to me.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful crochet and yummy treats!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Meredith
I guess I agree with many who think crochet and cake are a good combo! Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteInteresting crochet and cakes! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteCrochet and cake, indeed what could be better. I am doing this CAL as well but without the cake unfortunately as I am following Slimming World and still have 2 stone to lose. xx
ReplyDeleteCrochet and cake, obviously a winning combination, especially with the G & T cake - classic! Maybe keep going with the theme Pimms cake for Wimbledon, Sherry for Xmas !!!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend.
Wren x
Cake and crochet, yum. What more's to be said?
ReplyDeleteDiana
It's a great CAL isn't it? What lucky people your crochet group are! Cake and crochet (plus lots of chat), perfect companions.
ReplyDeleteThe crochet and cake both look fab, how about an orange and apricot tea loaf too? Hx
