Elderflower cordial

June 8th

Here in Oxfordshire the sun finally began to shine and the elderflowers have begun a tad later this year to flower.  As usual I rush out to begin to make the first elderflower cordial so that by the last flush of flowers I am out there again making some in reserve for later in the year.

And in such a short space of time, you have ready your home made elderflower cordial...

24 hours later ready to drink
Elderflower cordial making is so simple and easy and yet feels such a decadent thing to have in the house, I look forward to making it every year.

In case you are tempted you will need:

20 elderflower heads
1.2l water
1.8kg sugar
2 lemons
75g citric acid

For full instructions post over to my post from 2014...  Elderflower cordial

Let me know if you make some of if you have great elderflower tips for me, it is lovely added to Prosecco too or for those less boozy days with sparkling water...

♥   Enjoy   ♥

  2. Do you add water to it when you drink it or is it ready to go? It all sounds very straightforward and delicious. x

    1. Karen I add water otherwise it's a bit too syrupy and sweet but it easy quick easy and wonderful to make. Give it a go. I usually but the citric acid from the chemist btw

  4. The first time I had some of this was when I visited England in 2012. I have been wanting the taste again, ever since. I planted an Elderberry in the last house, but of course that has since been sold. It's time to plant another!

  7. I love this. I have to pay dearly to buy a small bottle of elderflower cordial and I've only found it at one chain of stores here in the U.S.A. What fun to make your own. My Dear makes me a couple nice cocktails using it. :)

  8. I used to love elderflower wine years ago, but I've never made it. I've always been meaning to make elderflower cordial, just never seem to get round to doing it! Perhaps if we don't get any more rain we might be able to go and find some elderflower heads. Barbara xx

  10. Thank you so much for this recipe! Thing is...I don't know if we have elderflowers here in Indiana, United States. BUT...I saw something that looked like this growing in our yard the other day and wondered what it was. It was growing wild along our front bank, but the county came by and chopped our bank down :-(
I want to thank you for commenting on my blog on Five on Friday. I have been a bit late getting back on the computer this week. I'll be back to visit but it might be a few days. I'm getting ready to go on another trip. Lordy I'm tired and ready to stay home!

  13. It is the drink of summer for me and the good news is that we can now get it in Australia (in a bottle!) even if I can't find the flowers in the hedges!
