New Year New Beginnings New Knitting

      January 3rd

Christmas is finished the decorations are still lingering and I need to pull my finger out to dismantle it all for another year. I'm a contradiction in that it's my favourite time of the year, Christmas that is and really I don't want to let go but on the other hand having clear surfaces and less around the house is very appealing. The true reason I suspect that  I'm holding off is that tomorrow the clock begins to tick for us again and I'm resisting the back to school, back to work routine which inevitably brings out the worst in me.

New Years resolutions. Not really. Last year I hoped to knit more and by Jove I did!  So much so that I've begun this year a jumper. Just hope I can last the course and actually finish it. This year I hope to eat more simply and clean. I do not want to diet or try any fads but I want to feel healthier and happier so maybe I will look at my food intake and excercise use this year BUT these are not resolutions you understand.

This year though I want to make memories with my family and friends and try and 'live' more in the moment and laugh and be less stressed. I hope this is possible. To all of you I wish nothing but happiness and good health in this year ahead...

      1. A very Happy New Year to you Selma. Usually I'm ready to take down the decorations straight after new year but I was a little reluctant this time. It has been a topsy turvy few weeks but I did enjoy our quiet Christmas in our home. I hope you soon feel more positive about the return to routine. January is always a bit of a come down after the light and happiness that Christmas brings. The jumper looks gorgeous. At first I thought it was your husband in the photograph! I'm sure he will love it. I assume he doesn't read your blog if it is to be a surprise. X

        1. Hugs back to you too Meredith. It's so strange how the ticking of the click makes such a difference. Hope it was not too difficult after a short break to go back and the kids ease in ok too

      3. I don't take the decorations down until twelfth night, but I am finding it difficult not to take them down as the house is in chaos after all the family visits. It really does need a good clean from top to bottom. Love the sweater, such a thoughtful gift.

      4. What a lovely sweater. I finished something very similar for my son On Christmas Eve! My tree and decorations came down yesterday ready for a fresh start to the year.

      6. No resolutions here either, except I hope to continue purging clutter in my home. Your new sweater plans are gorgeous ... lucky husband! I've dismantled the tree today and all decorations are ready for someone(?!) to return to the crawlspace. I think getting into the crawlspace is the worst part of the beginning and ending of Christmas for me.

        1. Crawl space , what a great word Wendy. That's exactly what we have as our bedrooms are mostly in the roof so any loft space we have us tiny. Actually just enough for the Christmas decs and no more

      9. The yarn is SO pretty! Way to go! It looks complicated. I hope you have a holiday of some sort to look forward to. When I was teaching teenagers, I very much looked forward to a smattering of days off. I prayed for snow, too!

        1. Yes!! I pray for snow days too! I hope, don't think the jumper will be complicated but only time will tell...

      10. Beautiful sweater you are knitting - the colors are so scrumptious! I have been slow to transition into the new year, too, but finally have all the decorations put to rest for another year. It's always fun to put them out, but not so fun to put them away! I have made a resolve to do more crocheting this year (I don't know how to knit), and to eat more responsibly, too, although the Christmas candy is still hanging around tempting me. Wishing you a happy and healthy New Year with lots of time for knitting! xo Karen

        1. Hope the candy is now gone Karen. Even if you've eaten it at least it's away and you can start afresh. Well, that's what I tell myself!
