      Eclectic crafting life Selma style

      16th October

Sunrise at Eastboune last week end
How to you manage? How do you juggle your life and keep all those balls up in the air so to speak?   I hear my own voice in my head saying, take one thing at a time, take small steps and do not look at the bigger picture when all seems too much. Firstly, do you have an inner voice?  Do you listen to it?  Do you have conversations with it, or is it just me?  I love life and generally try to go with the flow, but I feel my life is somewhat of a rollercoaster of a ride and I feel, probably incorrectly, but my perception is that our household is seldom smooth running, fun and hugely entertaining value for money if you consider what has happened here in the last few weeks...
These are questions I often ask myself and my inner voice often replies not to my liking!

Neck braced up and waiting for the ambulance
Week 1:  Daughter taken to local first aid unit as she had hurt her neck and the pain killers I was giving her did nothing, so thought we would go there for stronger ones.  Uh-no!  They neck braced her and sent her off in a blue flashing light ambulance! It was all so surreal, they thought she had fractured her neck!  Luckily she hadn't and it all turned out well, but honestly, it was totally surreal.  I
was going to make her go to training that night and instead she was put in an ambulance! It could have been worse, so we are blessed.

Ahh, the ceiling seems to have fallen down
Week 2:  Had husbands work colleagues over for dinner, but his work had an emergency the night before and he was up until 3am and then he leaves the house again at 0545, so we decided to take said colleagues out for dinner. They were staying the night as they lived quite far away, I knew them not at all.  We came back into the house after eating out, to find water gushing through what was left of the ceiling with the rest of it on the floor!  The water had to be
turned off at the mains, we could not get a plumber at that hour, which meant the water had to stay off and we couldn't even flush the toilets.  Wonder what they made of us! It could have been worse and happened in a room with far more soft furnishings, apart from the ceiling the damage is minimal.

Week 3:  Since my pleurisy back in May my breathing has stayed very laboured and I have struggled to even walk up our single short flight of stairs at home.  Then falling foul to an autumnal cold, I could hardly breathe this week.  Quick visit to the doctor and bloods and x ray taken to see what is going on...  Now a week or so on, I am getting better, so it could have been worse.

Week 4:  Son and husband have a week of loosing EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!  Work bag, school bag, gym kit, one school shoe, a jumper and a broken phone.  The only thing that has been located and retrieved so far was the school bag, everything else still missing in action. URGHHHHHHH  They are both alive and fit and strong, despite loosing and forgetting everything, so I am blessed to have them in my life ;)

Brimble waiting for us to come back and winterise her
Week 5:  Due to unexpected work load we have had to cancel our weekend flights to Scotland to
winterise the boat, money lost on flights and when can we now get back up there to sort out Brimble.  However, we are lucky for it not to cripple us, just have to tighten belts a bit around here for a while, it's no bad thing.

The above is just a very small selection of what has been going on in the past 5 weeks.  I often  look at blogs and can be a tad green at others lives, I remember someone commenting a year or so ago on this blog that I had the perfect life.  My response... I only post that which I am willing to share and often that which is fun and light hearted and full of 'hygge' as the Scandinavians say.  But I also responded by saying not to be fooled as who really does live a charmed life and behind every blog and every face there are many more stories to be told and not all full of warmth and light.  We never know what goes on in a person's life behind their closed doors...

I have just realised that this post does not correlate to the post title, so let's rectify that now...
I have so many ideas in my head and not enough hours in the day, plus trying to make and create some Chrimbo makes for my posting everyday in December as I do, is filling my days up with no spare minutes to be found, but snippets of my makes to show you are...

These will turn out to be glass Christmas trees
to be hung in the window, pop back in
      December for more information...

The beginnings of Christmas crochet slippers,
      again pop back and see

Not quite a ta dah yet as awaiting handles in the post, yes
handles, my what is it knitted item, will turn out to be a bag!!

Had a few spare minutes yesterday, so stopped
the car in a car park full of birds and began a new knitted idea!

Not a make, but full of inspiration and bought way
too much! The wonderful shop that is the Fluffatorium in Dorking

Join in with  Amy to share with you my last five week  and my latest makes.
Do pop along and see what others are sharing today.

How do you juggle your life and fit everything in?

      1. Sounds like a grim few weeks but at least you are feeling quite light hearted about it all. I was intrigued about the glass you are working on. The bag looks amazing, looking forward to seeing the finished project with handles. Hopefully a better week is in store for you. Take care.

      3. Whew! What a week! The ceiling! YIKES! The daughter! SCARY! You DID have a crazy week and there's nothing like lost stuff to make me crazy.
I like your boat and I wish you could go to Scotland at the weekend.
The photo of the geese and knitting = VERY HYGGE!
I love the yarn store. I would like to go to a yarn store next week. I'm going to try to fit it in.
You're blog, your words and writer's voice, are awesome.

      5. Blimey, you've had a mad few weeks! Hopefully snatches of crafting or like little oases of peace in all the madness. I do have an inner voice, but I ignore her most of the time - she's a bit of a a harpy ;) I was lucky enough to get made redundant a year ago and took early retirement. Now, I wonder how I ever found the time for a job. My biggest issue is a lack of structure - I spend a lot of time wondering about aimlessly, achieving very little :( My inner voice is telling me I should make myself some kind of timetable and start treating retirement like a job, but where's the fun in that?!

        1. Yep these inner voices can be a pain in the but. I say enjoy your retirement so what if you don't quite achieve what you could do with a structure. As long as you are happy why change?

      6. What a crazy week! My goodness! I'm glad that everything seems to be on the mend now. I hope that your daughter is doing a lot better! About your question - hmmm... I find that when I'm overwhelmed with things, I start looking at my schedule and then taking out things that don't seem like a priority. I also find time for myself, crafting like sewing, especially hand sewing really helps me to find my centering. I love that you stopped in the park and did some knitting. That's the best! I hope this week looks a lot brighter for you. Have a wonderful weekend!

        1. Thank you Jarisma. I agree about hand sewing. I used to do that a lot but not so much now although I have just completed a hand sewn project for my daily December posts. It is such a calming past time

      7. About the pumpkins!
The two big ones came from one pumpkin plant that I bought and put in the ground in early June (we have a short growing season here in Colorado). Some little greedy animal ate some of the smaller ones. Sad.
I planted seeds, too. I have ONE little pumpkin from the seed. I did not feed them. I just left the big ones alone.
The vines take up so much space. Next year I am planting cucumbers for pickle making instead.
My wish is always to provide all the grands (10) with pumpkins but the harvest always falls WAY short of that.
It's still fun to watch them grow and I hope you are successful next year!

      8. Oh, nobody has a perfect life! Nobody! But hon, you have had your share of messy situations lately! My goodness! You should be caught up for a while, I would say! I am so sorry about all the catastrophes, but as always it's a blessing to have loved ones close and in good health, as you said. So, here's hoping for nothing but smooth sailing ahead (and a winterized sailboat!) God bless!

BTW LOVE what I could see of your house!!!!

      9. Hi Selma, you have had a busy week with a couple of scary things thrown in there, too. I do hope you daughter is doing better. And, in regard to the water leak, thank goodness you were not away traveling. Things will get better. Although I'm retired, my husbands hobby (real estate) keeps us hopping. There is never a dull moment and sometimes it's not fun. But, when after working hard, you can always play hard. I wish you the best for the weekend. Hopefully you can get some rest and enjoy your time. Hugs, Pat xx

      10. Sounded like a crazy week and hope all okay now. Life does have a way of getting in the way of things sometimes. My last post was all about this and I find sitting down and planning or making lists helps me. Good luck P x

        1. Patricia lists are good. I'm a tad naughty and to make myself feel better add things to my list that weren't there for one reason or another but I know I've done them, just so I can cross more things off!!!

      11. Oh Selma, you poor thing!! You should have let me know. If there is anything that I can do to help let me know. Don't worry about meeting up, you are far too occupied dealing with all of these things right now. I do hope that things next week are far better than they have been and that you can get back to your beautiful glass making and your fab knitting - they are gorgeous things by the way. Thank you for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have if not a great weekend because of things like the ceiling at least a good one and that you can find a little time to relax. Take care my dear. Hugs!!! xx

      12. It's easy to feel that other people's lives are smoother, easier and more fun than our own, and I'd be fibbing if I didn't admit to looking at friends with at least a pang of envy. But, as you quite rightly show here, there's a lot going on behind the scenes that folk just don't see or know. So, how do we all cope? Often I don't. Things don't get done, work falls behind, dinner is microwaved, the house adds (yet another!) layer of dust. I'm learning not to care so much. I really do think we can be our own worst enemies.

My long term boss is taking early retirement in a couple of months and it's making me reevaluate life and what I want. Must say I'm plotting how I can also retire and do something with less pressure. Just to waste time for a while and discover who I am again. I suspect that finances won't permit that for a few more years at least, but it's good to dream and at least think through the options. Have also had a grim few weeks - though not a patch on yours - but trying to see it as a bit of light and shade. The shade offering me the context to enjoy the days or even moments of light when they reappear. Take care.

        1. What a great response Sharon. It's funny how we always think it's greener on the other side but really it isn't just a different very of the same really. Changing jobs is daunting BUT I think it's great to shake it up a bit. I was delighted to see that you were able to take time out recently to make that beautifully piped edge cushion. It looked stunning. If ever I can help with anything bring it a cup of coffee and chat, vodka drinking and drowning sorrows ilor theatre going... Just shout my friend x

      13. That shop in Dorking looks fantastic - and I"m sure it's easy to leave with way more things than you intended. And yes I have an inner voice, sometimes I listen, sometimes I don't - but it's nice to weigh things up and have a sensible conversation about stuff at times :) #fiveonfriday

      15. Oh my what a few weeks! Your head just must be spinning with all that is going on. This week my Dad went in to the Emergency Room for his back, was hospitalized and has finally been discharged into a rehabilitation center. This took hours and days of phone calls on top of my regular work. My oldest sons' car got broken into in Ohio, then two days later it got towed because the city was washing the streets and he was not aware of the schedule. Lots of money wasted on that. I have been running back and forth to the hospital all week, while cleaning my Father's place, taking care of his cats, doing his laundry on top of all that I already do. I am exhausted and my new work week does not look much better than last week. I feel you pain my friend, hand in there.

      16. I am glad to hear that you and your family are all in good health...silver lining!
I really don't know how I pull through after a number of unfortunate events in our lives; I guess I just grin and bear it, take one day at a time, but is not fun!

I hope that by now things are getting better and are back to a so called normal life. Hugs!

      17. OH my - as they say "when it rains it pours". It sure seems like you had a couple of weeks like that - yuck!! So happy to hear you're feeling better and hope you have a blessed week ahead with lots of good luck! ;)

I love the projects you're working on - especially those darling slippers. I wish so much that there were more time in the day. I always feel like I'm behind and things over my head and I don't get enough time to visit with friends like you. I just try to enjoy each moment that I'm able.
        xoxo
